Dog-Safety Advocate Lindsey Wolko Launches CanineCommuter.com With Innovative Pet Travel Products
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 14, 2008 -- Lindsey Wolko and her three English Cocker pups have officially launched a new Website, CanineCommuter.com. The retail site offers innovative, quality products for the safe transportation of pets in cars, airplanes, bikes, motorcycles and boats. The Website reflects Wolko's mantra of security, comfort and fun for herself and her pets, with a special emphasis on safety.
"Our goal at CanineCommuter.com is to help educate you, the consumer, and provide you with quality pet travel solutions that allow you to focus on having fun with your pet -- while keeping you and your dog safe when traveling by land, sea or air," says Wolko. Car travel is a special concern for Wolko who commutes with her dogs.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) reports that unrestrained pets cause thousands of accidents a year and the consequences of unrestrained pets doesn't stop there. During an accident, unrestrained dogs can become projectiles, risking injury to themselves and to other occupants of the automobile.
Wolko has witnessed dogs jumping from moving vehicles with horrific consequences. "I want to help prevent these situations in the future by educating the public on pet travel safety. My personal experience with the products we offer can help guide consumers to the best solution specific to their needs."
On the road with your dog
A project management consultant in the financial services industry, Wolko has spent 12 years commuting 80 miles round trip to client sites in Washington-area traffic. During that time, Wolko took her two dogs with her everyday to go to daycare.
It was three years ago, when Wolko was asked to adopt a third dog, Maggie, that her mission became clear. "When Maggie came to live with us," says Wolko, "I already had two dogs and my car was full. I needed some way to safely transport three dogs every day.
"Initially, Maggie would wander in the car. She wasn't tethered and I never knew where she was, says Wolko. "I needed to focus on driving the car and pay attention to traffic. Interstate-66 has many accidents during the rush hour commute and I knew that if I didn't find a way to contain or tether her, we'd be one of them."
Maggie became the test case for a variety of seat belts, harnesses and crates before Wolko finally found a system that worked for her. "I spent a lot of time and money trying to find a solution to our problem. That's how we learned what works and what doesn't when it comes to traveling with your dog."
About Canine Commuter's Commitment to Quality and Safety: "I have personally used or inspected the brands I offer on Canine Commuter," says Wolko. "I focus on quality products for our customers. We offer some of the best brands in the business when it comes to pet travel, safety, comfort and fun!"
