Chicago-style Hot Dog

These high-piled hot dogs are a Chicago tradition, and the celery salt is the Windy City?s signature flavor. There are so many goodies, in fact, that you?ll probably want to eat this hot dog with a fork and knife.

Nonstick cooking spray

One 1-ounce hot dog (with between 1 and 3 grams of fat per ounce)

One 2:90 whole-wheat or multigrain hot dog bun

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

3⁄4 ounce Jack cheese (with more than 1 gram but no more than 3 grams of fat per ounce)

1⁄2 cup chopped tomato MEN: 1 cup

1⁄4 cup chopped yellow onion MEN: 1⁄2 cup

1 teaspoon chopped peperoncini

1⁄2 large dill pickle

1⁄8 teaspoon celery salt

MEN: 1 cup sliced cucumber MEN: 3⁄4 cup sliced fennel MEN: 1⁄4 cup shredded carrot MEN: Lemon juice, to taste MEN: Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Heat an 8-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Spray with nonstick cooking spray. Place the hot dog in the skillet and cook until browned, about 3 minutes, turning once. Split the bun open and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. Place cut-side down on the skillet for 30 seconds, or until toasted. Spread mustard on both sides of the bun; put in the hot dog and cheese. Top with tomato, onion, peperoncini, and pickle. Sprinkle with celery salt.

MEN: Make a side salad with the cucumbers, fennel, and carrots. Season to taste with lemon juice and black pepper.
